For this piece, I have explored the evolution of human communication, focusing on writing systems and coding from both ancient and contemporary perspectives.
Clay tablets, designed to echo the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max, feature inscribed cuneiform codes that document the technical journey they have undergone during the saggar firing process. Consumer materials are applied to these tablets, igniting during the firing to create burnt hues within the vitrified clay.
Cuneiform, an ancient writing system originating from Mesopotamia, used a specialised stylus to imprint characters into clay tablets, predating the advent of paper. The arrangement of the tablets is strategically positioned across a charred Shou Sugi Ban frame.
Through this artwork, I aim to highlight our ongoing journey in communication and the consumption of information, juxtaposed with our appreciation for the physical and traditional artistry inherent in human-made creations.
