Sculptural centre-piece planter. This piece highlights the layering of slip (recycled liquid clay) paired with hand-carved textures using oyster shells.
Oyster shell aggregate has been pressed into the wet slip, which then reacts with the clays and glazes during firing. Please take note that the actual shell aggregate inside this piece gives it some sharper edges. Waste oyster shells provided by the Wright Bros. restaurants in London.
Reactive glazes, sponsored by Mayco, flow across the surface to mimic water, creating dynamic colours and textures. The interaction between the glazes and the powdered oyster shells not only enhances the sense of fluidity but also introduces a rich, deep green tone.
